Pronounced 'ba-boor-tea'. A traditional South African dish. Serve with mashed pumpkin or kumera.

Ingredients

500 g mince
1 onion, sliced thin
1 tbsp brown sugar
1 tsp curry powder
1 tsp ginger powder
½ cup raisins or sultanas
½ cup spicy fruit chutney
½ cup beef stock
2 tbsp SIDS HOT WORCESTER SAUCE
2 tbsp tomato paste
TOPPING:--
1½ cups milk
4 eggs
1 tbsp fresh thyme, chopped

Directions

Brown the mince (in batches) in a large lidded frypan. Add onion, brown sugar, ginger & curry then cook further 2-3 minutes until very fragrant. Stir in raisins, chutney, stock, tomato paste and SIDS HOT WORCESTER SAUCE. Cover and simmer for 30 minutes.
Pre-heat oven to 180°C.
Transfer the mince to a 6 cup capacity dish and spread out evenly. Beat milk, eggs & thyme together and carefully pour over the meat. Bake for 30-35 minutes until custard is set.
Serve hot.
